Meet Roderick

Prior to a career in the NHS, Dr Roderick Orner served with Royal Norwegian Navy Special Forces.

 

He is a Fellow of the British Psychological Society, Consultant Clinical Psychologist in private practice and Professor at the University of Lincoln, UK.

 

Areas of specialisations include reactions to extreme stresses and trauma, post incident psychological risk management, personal injury assessments and therapy.

His maritime experience comes from his upbringing in Norway, where he engaged in sailing and served on various ships, including the 'Christian Radich' and a Norwegian chemical tanker. 

 

In his professional career, Dr. Orner has been devoted to psychotraumatology since the mid-1980s. He conducted research and published articles on war veterans, specifically British Falklands War Veterans and European War Veterans.

 

In the 1990s, he initiated a multi-agency program to provide training and support for emergency responders dealing with trauma in their line of work.

 

Throughout his career, Dr. Orner has been involved in various leadership roles, such as organizing the First European Conference on Traumatic Stress and serving as President of the European Society for Traumatic Stress Studies. He is also a senior joint editor of the book 'Reconstructing Early Intervention after Trauma,' published in 2003.

 

Currently, Dr Orner’s research interests focus on improvement in primary care, the quality of ambulance services and developing community resources for improved health.
